" Our Borneo adventure with Tread the Globe truly was the trip of a lifetime. Everything was incredibly well organised and we felt safe and looked after throughout, while still having the most amazing adventure.
We travelled through Malaysia, stayed in beautiful places, saw incredible wildlife including the Big 5, and even had the opportunity to dive at the world-famous Sipadan.
What made it extra special was the people. We all arrived as complete strangers and left as lifelong friends. We laughed until we cried, shared some unforgettable experiences and made memories that will stay with us forever.
We couldn’t recommend a Tread the Globe adventure highly enough. We had the absolute time of our lives.'

The trip of a lifetime

We had the pleasure of joining this fun group of people on a trip to Borneo, and we are so glad we did! Every day was thoughtfully planned and we could do as much or as little as we wanted.

No need to worry about what foods we would eat, where to stay, or how to get around. The people we traveled with were a lot of fun and we have made lifelong friends. For anyone who is thinking about going to Malaysia and Borneo, I highly recommend it.

So “throw off the bowlines” and go. You will be glad you did!

When we signed up to go on the Tread the Globe Borneo trip we had no idea just how good it was going to be.

We are both well travelled individuals, but nothing prepared us for the caring and thoughtful couple who were about to take us on possibly the most beautiful, intimate, sometimes breathtaking, adventure through a part of the world that they clearly know and love so much.

It is not possible to put into words just how wonderful the whole experience was, the places we visited and the people we shared the experience with. We are all now firm friends through the hard work and planning that Marianne & Chris put into the trip.

If you are reading this then you are already interested in booking, don’t ponder. . . do it !

You won’t regret it !!

WOW!

We said yes to Borneo while we were still looking it up on the map to figure out where it was and honestly, it may be the best “yes” we’ve ever said!

We saw and did things we never would have dreamed of doing on our own. A temple inside a cave. Orangutans. A pygmy elephant! Sea turtles and turtle hatcheries. Jungle cruises. Jungle walks. Discovery dives and snorkeling. Wildlife conservation centers. A helibar on top of a building. A visit to a local village where we played with the kids and taught them the Hokey Pokey. And my new favorite fish - the sweet lips. Seriously, who knew I needed a favorite fish?

And somehow, in the middle of ALL of that, everything just worked. The planning was so incredibly well done that we barely had to think about it. We just showed up, enjoyed ourselves, and kept wondering, “What are we doing next?” Chris and Marianne were amazing hosts, and the Malaysian staff and guides were warm, gracious, knowledgeable, and just plain wonderful.

Then throw in a small group of fun, curious, like-minded travelers, and you have the recipe for one epic adventure.

We went to Borneo not really knowing what we were getting ourselves into. We came home with incredible memories, new friends, a whole lot of stories, and a very strong suspicion that we need to say “yes” to whatever Chris and Marianne dream up next!

An Unforgettable Adventure in Malaysia & Borneo.

We attended an incredible trip to Malaysia and Borneo organised by Chris and Marianne in September 2025 and it is difficult to put into words just how special the experience was.
From the very beginning, it was clear that this was far more than just a holiday. Chris and Marianne created a truly memorable adventure that combined wildlife, culture, laughter, friendship, and experiences that many of us will remember for the rest of our lives.

One of the things that immediately stood out was the level of care and attention they put into every aspect of the trip. The itinerary was brilliantly planned, offering the perfect balance between adventure, sightseeing, relaxation, and social time. There was always something exciting around the corner, but nothing ever felt rushed or overwhelming.
What made the trip particularly special was the way Chris and Marianne looked after every member of the group. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Whether it was helping with arrangements, answering questions, making sure everyone was comfortable, or simply checking that people were enjoying themselves, they genuinely cared about everyone having the best possible experience.

The wildlife encounters alone made the trip extraordinary. We were fortunate enough to see the famous "Big Five" of Borneo including orangutans, crocodiles, pygmy elephants, rhino hornbills and proboscis monkeys. Seeing these magnificent animals in their natural environment was genuinely breathtaking. Opportunities such as snorkelling with turtles, sponsoring turtles and visiting the turtle sanctuary added an extra emotional connection to the incredible natural beauty of the region.

The variety of activities was outstanding. We visited the iconic Petronas Towers, explored caves, enjoyed river safaris, ventured on thrilling night safari truck rides, snorkelled in crystal-clear waters, tried diving (despite some understandable nerves!), visited local villages, and experienced both the beauty and reality of local life.

The local guides selected by Chris and Marianne were exceptional. Their knowledge, humour and enthusiasm added so much to the experience. They managed to make every journey informative while keeping everyone entertained with stories, jokes and fascinating insights into the local culture and wildlife. A huge strength of the trip was the atmosphere they created within the group. Travelling with a diverse mix of people can sometimes be challenging, but Chris and Marianne fostered a genuinely welcoming and inclusive environment where friendships developed naturally. By the end of the trip, everyone felt like part of one big travelling family.

Of course, there was also plenty of fun. There were evenings filled with laughter, dancing, games and celebrations. Birthday celebrations, shared meals, endless supplies of roti, sunset drinks, wildlife spotting, funny stories and countless memorable moments all contributed to an unforgettable experience. Some of the funniest moments have already become legendary amongst the group and are stories we will undoubtedly be telling for years to come.

What impressed us most was how Chris and Marianne managed to create a holiday that catered to so many different interests. Whether you love wildlife photography, diving, culture, food, adventure, nature, or simply spending time with wonderful people, there was something for everyone.

Perhaps most importantly, this wasn't a trip where you simply visit places and tick off attractions. It was a trip where you genuinely connect with the destinations, the people, the wildlife and your fellow travellers. We came home not only with incredible photographs and wonderful memories, but also with new friendships and a much deeper appreciation of Malaysia and Borneo.

We cannot thank Chris and Marianne enough for their hard work, organisation, kindness and enthusiasm. Their passion for travel is infectious, and it shines through in every aspect of the experience they create.
If you are considering joining one of their future trips, our advice is simple: book it. You will be travelling with two of the most caring, organised and genuine hosts you could hope to meet, and you will almost certainly come home with unforgettable memories, fantastic new friends, and stories that will make you smile for years to come.

An outstanding adventure from start to finish. Highly recommended.
