About us
Married for nearly 30 years, British couple Marianne and Chris swapped the hamster wheel of life for full-time travel and meaningful adventure.
After working in high-pressure roles - running the Special Visits Department at The Dorchester Hotel in London and later managing a pub in Shropshire - both went on to spend over a decade working in the NHS.
In 2017, a life-changing moment reshaped their lives. Marianne (58) became a living kidney donor to one of her best friends, and Chris (55) was diagnosed with a heart issue and stress. With the kids grown up and on their own path and the mortgage finally paid off, we asked ourselves the question: Would we even make it to retirement?
So, we took the leap of faith, left behind the conventional path and hit the road. What started as a bold idea to spend more time together, has since become an extraordinary global journey.
Through TREAD the Globe was born from an idea by our eldest son to document our adventures for family and friends - we now share our story to inspire others to live boldly, travel meaningfully, and embrace whatever adventure comes next.
Our Vehicles
Trudy
Trudy is a 2005 2.3 Fiat Ducato Adria Twin Campervan - 15" tyres and we chose her as Marianne's Dad recommended it for Europe - we had no idea we would be driving her around the world!!
Upgrades included: Autoterm Diesel Heater, extra solar, LPG tank, lifesaver jerrycan, Wifi booster, new extra suspension.
Trevor
Trevor is a 2018 Toyota single cab 2.5 truck which we bought in KL and is having a pop up camper added by the team at CamperV who worked on Trudy when we needed some work doing in Malaysia.
It has off road capability paired with the ability to fit inside a container to ship between continents!
Upgrades include: Roamer batteries / Victron Electrical, lifesaver jerrycan, Autoterm Diesel heater / water heater. We will be reaching out to off road outfitters soon!
