Trip itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Sandakan
Arrive in Sandakan.
You will be greeted at the airport and transferred to the Ormond hotel. If your flight arrives before 1.30pm you can join our "intro to Borneo's jungles" at Sepilok Rainforest Discovery Centre in the afternoon which includes a visit to Sabah's longest canopy walk.
In the evening, we will all meet up for dinner at the hotel.

Day 2: Orangutans, Sun Bears and River Safaris
Meet up for Breakfast before heading out to have a guided tour of the famous Sepilok orangutan sanctuary, Then straight afterwards a visit to the Borneo Sunbear conservation centre. We will then be transferred to a Lodge on the banks of the Kinabatangan river arriving for lunch, then, followed by an afternoon river cruise and night walk (B,L,D -Included)
DAY 3: jungle and river safaris
Wake up on the Kinabatangan river for an early morning river cruise before breakfast, later in the day there will be a short jungle walk before lunch (or opt out and relax on the deck at the lodge), there is an afternoon river cruise & night walk (B,L,D Included) You will have the opportunity to really enjoy the rainforest vibe
* optional night cruise RM100 per person for the chance to see more local night life, or hang out on the deck and have a cool beer!!
DAY 4: River Safari, Caves and Nature Reserves
Early morning river cruise, before we leave the Kinabatangan river after breakfast, but stop off for a quick visit to the Gomantong caves, then on to Lahad Datu for registration to the Rainforest Lodge, check-in and have a rest or take a dip in the plunge pool, or have a busy afternoon with a guided hike, river cruise before freshening up for dinner then after dark, join a night safari in search of nocturnal animals (B,L,D - Included)
DAY 5: rainforest natural reserve
Wake up to the sounds of the jungle at the Rainforest Lodge with an optional early morning bird walk, followed by breakfast then a river cruise, we head out to the mangroves to look for some wildlife.
Then after lunch, we take some down time before a late afternoon hike, or take some down time by the plunge pool after dinner join the last night walk (B,L, D -Included )
day 6: Road trip to Semporna - to Mabul Island
Check out from the lodge after breakfast, to take a 4.5 hour drive to Semporna together in minibuses (or coach) but you will have either Chris or I with you if we go in Minibuses or both in a coach, When we arrive we will find a local restaurant to get some lunch (own expense - super cheap - and you can try roti canai if you want !!). Then head over to Mabul Island by speed boat which takes about 40 mins, check in, and explore the house reef with snorkels, enjoy a wander or a drink at the end of the jetty (B, D -included)
DAY 7: Mabul Island - Island Life
Snorkelling (you will be guaranteed to see turtles) /fun dives (if you are qualified) or this is your opportunity to try a Discovery Scuba Dive (with a qualified instructor), in one of the most biodiverse places on the planet.
(B,L,D -Included) It is a world class dive / snorkel marine park and we want to share it with you!
Chris and I will make sure that one of us is either snorkelling or diving so we are with you all the time!!
DAY 8: Visiting the World Famous Dive sites
Snorkelling / fun dives around a nearby island called Kapalai or try a Discover Scuba Diving

This little part ofthe world is dotted with stunning islands.
If you want a break from the water, bring a book and hang out on the jetty or beach, or take a stroll on the white sand and soak up the rays and feel the joy wash over you....
if not get wet and see the epic marine life!!
DAY 9: Paradise Islands
Snorkelling / fun dives at Sipadan (Minimum certification - Advanced Open Water or above) (B,L,D -included) We are excited to share with you this place where we came before TREAD was created, and have visited more than 10 times as it is a real gem. On the previous groups even the snorkellers were blown away with sightings of bumphead parrot fish and sharks (only reefsharks - humans are not on their menu!)
DAY 10: Farewell to Borneo
Early breakfast together, then we get the 10am boat to Semporna, to get our transfer to Tawau airport for the departure flight at 2.30pm or later (B -included). We will grab some snacks / food in Semporna before we leave.
Before the trip, we open a private facebook group and whats app group to guide you once you have booked, and there will be google meet ups so that we can answer all of your questions, to help your adventure run smoothly and to allow you to make the most of your adventure with us.
